No CEMF trick

The Steorn Orbo clearly has inductance, as seen in their scope shots. You can see the RL time constant. It’s not much inductance since the magnets significantly decrease the core effective permeability. This rise time due to inductance can be significantly decreased by precisely adjusting the toroid windings such that the induced voltage from the moving magnet will help it cancel out. To be honest, it’s a pointless task. Sure, you can wow some of your EE friends with it, but all it’s doing is using the kinetic energy from the moving magnets to produce a pulse across the coil, which will cause the coil to saturate the core faster than normal.
