Free Tibet

Tibet map

Chinese people are still afraid to death to speak out because they quickly end up buried in the ground by their own government. Their government blocks *all* websites such as this website from their own people. Most people call that enslavement. And then there's an even darker side of china, human torture on a massive scale in Tibet. I ask myself, how could I support such a country by buying products made in china? The answer is, I cannot. The moment china stops torturing living beings and frees Tibet and their own country is the instant I gladly buy products made in china.

We've all heard the accounts of the absolutely hideous torturing going on in Tibet by the chinese military. Yesterday I watched two documentaries. Lets just say I was in a state of shock. Folks, it is unimaginably worse than people think. Torture that is happening more than ever, today, this very second, right now human beings are being tortured beyond description.

The 1st documentary I watched was titled, "Tibetan Refugee". The 2nd documentary was titled, "Tibet: Cry of the Snow Lion". They interviewed Tibetan after Tibetan. These poor people wouldn't kill a flea, especially the Monks!  The poor Monks are the ones really getting the worst torture, which usually ends in death. On a daily basis they are beaten to unconsciousness. The Monks say that when they awaken they're in a pool of blood.

They are tortured in Tibet, and are not allowed to leaving their own country. They're in a pickle, those poor Tibetans. Stuck in endless torture. If *any* Tibetan is caught trying to leave the country, they are tortured. A Tibetan girl said in one of the video interviews that the chinese military makes you hold a metal bowl of boiling hot water, and if you drop it, you're tortured to death.

Wow, whatever you believe in, prayer, writing to your government, congress, and the UN, sending positive thoughts, whatever it is, china and Tibet need your help. Please spread the news.

Here's a nice website on the matter:

Here's a 6 part series on YouTube. It starts out with some footage of a long line of poor Tibetans trying to leave Tibet, in the snow, and suddenly, caught on camera the chinese military shoot them one by one. You can see this in the footage as each Tibetan drops to ground.

Site BW

I can't believe the website is actually going to make it to 10 GigaByte of transfer this month. Geez!! And I'm using the gzip method, which means all of the data that transfers from the server to your browser is compressed. Without that it would be higher than 10 GB. Of course this is transparent to you, as your web browser automatically uncompresses the files. That's about double from last month. It's no problem at all though because the web host offers unlimited traffic. :-D

Bird cruelty of the highest degree!

Change.org just now sent this to me -->

With more than half a billion eggs removed from the shelves and thousands of people seriously ill from salmonella poisoning, the ongoing egg recall is one of the worst food crises in recent history.

http://food.change.org/blog/view/first_eggs_now_deli_meat_is_anything_safe_to_eat

What's startling about the recall isn't just its size – it's that the source of the crisis is just two factory farms.

We like to think of our food as being produced on small, healthy, local farms. The food industry knows this, and encourages our misperception by marketing eggs under brands such as "Farm Fresh" and "Sunshine." But in reality there’s nothing fresh or sunny about our domestic egg production.

Ninety-five percent of eggs are produced on a handful of massive factory farms. These farms aren’t the scenic landscapes you see printed on labels or shown in commercials. They are huge industrial wastelands.

Wright County Egg, one of the two factory farms responsible for the current salmonella scandal, has 7.5 million egg-laying chickens crammed together so closely in battery cages that the birds can’t even stretch their wings. The chickens often live in their own bacteria-breeding excrement, and never see the light of day.

In response to the unsanitary conditions of factory egg farms, The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued new egg guidelines that would beef up safety standards. This is a step in the right direction, but the problems we have with egg production are just a microcosm of the broader problems of our industrial food system.

In the short term, what we really need is comprehensive food security bill that mandates more frequent inspections of factory farms and gives the FDA the tools to prevent deadly and costly food outbreaks before they ever happen.

The U.S. house passed such a food safety bill more than a year ago, but it has since stalled in the Senate. The egg recall has given this bill renewed attention, and we need to take advantage of this growing pressure for reform. Join us in calling on the Senate to pass a food safety bill when it returns after Labor Day.

In the long term, we hope this outbreak and recall helps hatch a broader movement for a safe and healthy alternative to our industrial food system. To learn more about the movement for local, healthy, sustainable food, check out the Sustainable Food cause on Change.org.

Have a great week,

- The Change.org Team

My friends, take a look at what the 20 *billion* chicken layers have to live in. How many enslaved chickens are there in the world? I would not wish that upon my worst enemy. It's the worst kind of jail sentence, an entire life of imprisonment of being injected with chemicals to lay as many eggs as possible in a jail so tight the poor animal can't stretch her wings, and everyday someone steals her baby eggs in an endless cycle until she dies on the shopping block. These are living beings, folks! How dare humanity! We are subject to the Universal laws of Cause & Effect. Looks like the effect is catching up to us. Oh humanity, you have no idea of the inevitable storm that heads your way! I've never peered upon a storm so dark. So humanity has become a huge MONSTER that saddens me, but I see the future looks good in ~ 15 to 20 years where the younger generations are loving and compassionate with our younger brothers and sisters, the animal kingdom.

Hue MCU efficiency meter update

More changes! ;-)   This thing has more reincarnations that the Dalai Lama. A good part of yesterday was spent on rigorously testing all of my optoisolators trying to make at least one linear from 0 to say 10 mA. The best one was linear from 3 to 10 mA. So I don't have any linear optoisolators. They're all the kind made to be a BJT switch.

Well, if I worked for a company, like Steorn, I would hope on Digikey and spent the $7 S&H to buy one meager $1 part, but I can't afford that luxury. The linear optoisolator will just have to be added to my private wish list to be purchased when the total parts list exceeds $30.

After some thought I came up with a great idea to do away with the differential probe for now due to lack of a linear optoisolator. Well, of course I could always use an instrumentation op-amp where it's ground is part of the common ground. That would eliminate the need for an optoisolator, but then again the instrumentation op-amp's common voltage must not exceed Vcc, which is 15 volts *MAX*. Hey, that's not going to work for the Hue because it can go over 60 volts. Another idea is to use a voltage divider. That will work, but I came up with an even better idea. Just use a differential *current* probe! :-D After all, that's all the differential *voltage* probe was going to do, measure current through a resistor. And would you believe I found a way to make a single current to voltage op-amp that would work as a differential current probe. Wow!

Now we're cookin! ... knock on wood!

TOR – Nice try but no cigar

Just out of curiosity, last night I was about to measure the power required to rotate the TOR (Tiny Orbiter Rig, formally "Tiny Orbo Replication") v4 at the specified 17,100 rpm. I'm think it's somewhere between 2 to 10 watts. So I had the TOR v4 connected to a dremel drill ready to go. Then plugged the dremel drill into a power meter that's built into a battery backup power supply. It's too bad because this power meter was obviously meant for high power devices like computers. The power display shows units down to 1 watt; e.g., 0.000 KW.  Unfortunately it jumps from 0 to 30 watts, and it's impossible to get anything between. The next jump is 36 watts, and continues in 6 watt increments. What a shame! :-?

The concept was to measure the dremel drill power input @ 17,100 rpm with and then without the TOR v4. It's not the most accurate method, but it would be close enough.

Happy National Trail Mix day!

Trail mix

And before you head out to the campsite today, don't forget to bring a bag of high energy trail mix for your trail hiking or biking adventures. Popular trail mix items include nuts, dried fruit, chocolate (ultra high % of cocoa highly recommended), M&Ms, pretzels, grains, and your favorite cereal.

Happy National Marshmallow Toasting day!

Campfire toasted marshmallows

Get some nice big marshmallows tonight with friends and family and start toasting away. If you don't have a fireplace or barbecue, then a stove will do the trick. Summer is too short not to have fun. And don't forget to make S'mores. Enjoy!

Happy More Herbs Less Salt day

Herbs

Today is More Herbs, Less Salt day. It's a day to encourage all of us to use more herbs, and less salt. The harvest of garden herbs is at peak in late August. Unlike salt, herbs can be healthy. And besides, all top chefs love using herbs, because they can make food taste unbelievably great. Usually fresh herbs taste best, but there are some recipes that call for dried herbs as well.

Hue MCU efficiency meter update 3

All of the dirty details are worked out. The old design worked, but it had to operate within a relatively narrow temperature range, and required ultra high precision resistors. It just didn't sit well with me at all.

In the new design, there will be three normal op-amp channels. Normal, in that all three have a common ground. Then there's a fourth channel that will be a true differential input. It will be like a true differential probe. It will have it's own battery and it's own ground.

The last remaining work is to figure out which method I'm going to use to link the differential circuit to the MCU input. Perhaps a voltage to current op-amp converter circuit that feeds an optoisolator?

Quick excess energy update

Most of today was spent on getting my car brakes done. A neighbor who owns a car dealer gave me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Part of today was spent on fiddling with the op-amp circuits for the Hue MCU efficiency meter. It only requires a POT to balance the differential op-amp circuit that will measure the current, but I just dont' like. Call me stuborn, or what. :-|

Also, something else, something good, is happening, but I won't menti0n it until it's successful.
